Getting the Key fob to work...

Hi Guys - this is my first post to X5 world. I just collected my 2nd hand x5 over the wkend and am a proud and happy owner as well.

Have a question to ask you all - The spare key I was given did not work remotely and so the dealer sent me a new one with instructions to programme the remote. I tried to do so yesterday and I messed it up (and I tried on the original working one and messed that up too). Do any of you know whats the programming sequence? Its along the lines of turning the ignition and pressing some buttons on the key...

Would be a great help if you did. Thanks a bunch.

Turn the ignition to the on position.
Set the seat, mirrors and wheel the way you like.
Press the "M" button located on the seat.
Press the "1" "2" or "3" <- whichever you want to be yours.
Start the car, then when you turn it off, get out and lock it.
Then unlock it. Your settings should be registered.

I believe that this may be what you are looking for.

Reprogramming Key Fob
To do this procedure you need to have one working key and one key that needs to be programmed.
  1. with the both keys, get in the car and close all windows and doors.
  2. Put working key into the ignition and turn to position 1 (the accessories should turn on)
  3. turn the key back to position 0 and take key out of the ignition.
  4. Using the working key, hold down the unlock button, press the Roundel (lock button) 3 times, and release the unlock button. Doors should lock and unlock.
  5. With the new key, hold down the unlock button and press the Roundel (lock button) 3 times and let go of the unlock button. Doors should lock and unlock and you're done!!
Alternate procedure if above doesn't work or if you do not have a working remote:

1. turn key to position 1 five times very quickly

2. remove key

3. Hold unlock button then press lock button 3 times, release unlock button.

4. If you have another key do the same button pressing within 30 seconds
