How many miles will a well-maintained X5 last?

Being my 1st BMW, I'm curious as to how long my 3.0i will last. It has been maintained regularly and received out of cycle oil changes. It presently has 78k miles. Any shot of making it to 150k miles? Things I should look out for to make that happen? Know of anyone that's crossed the 200k mark?

I was looking into this too before I bought my first X5 a couple of weeks ago. Before this one I had a 4Runner.

One of my buds put 112k miles on his '03 4.4 without any problems, only regular maintenance. He traded it in for an '05.

Another friend racked up 166k miles on his '01 3.0, also with regular maintenance. He gave it to his dad when he bought a new one and it's still running perfectly.

KewlX5 has about that or even more on his '01 3.0i. And he has some Dinan mods.

I've got mine in my will, so I'm expecting it to last longer than me!

I really want to know if these people pushing 100k are changing their transmisssion oil.

Because BMW says do not do it. I personally think it is a recipe for failure, but maybe I am wrong.

If KewlX5 didn't do it then I guess it's safe to say BMW is right

Personnally, nothing lasts "forever" - Even your body does a complete cell replacement every 7 years - new fluid can't hurt, but like everything else, it's all subjective (ie, how you drive, your climate, what the back of your mind tells you, etc)

i am hoping mine (02 3.0 77K) keeps going strong like it is right now. i hope it could get past 150K so i dont have to worry about buying a new car for at least 4 years. you are right about the 4runner. damn that thing is crazy strong and reliable. i have an 03 SR5 4runner bought brand new. all i ever done to that car is oil changes. not even a small bill on other parts. with the x i am having at least 10 repair bills of brakes, window regulators, cv boot, door actuator, battery, more window regulator, more door actuator, software reflash???@ dealer...you name it, most of it are not engine related though.
