Cool My steel tent

Over the past year I have had several occasions to use my X5 as a "tent" to camp out in. As I have been an avid backpacker for most of my life, I have found out that an X5 is a great alternate tent. Its dry, warm and safe.

I have "camped" at 8,500 elevation at 23 degrees Fahrenheit and watched the sunrise over Death Valley. there's nothing better than reaching over to turn the engine on and letting my "tent" warm up while I'm warm in my sleeping bag.

I have "camped" in a storm in my X5 while gale force winds and surf crashed about me. Cracking the windows 1/4 inch allows fresh air without water entering.

I have backed the X5 up to a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and watched the sunset out the back hatch. By using masking tape to hold a mosquito net in place over the open hatch I can have fresh air and no bugs.

With the passenger seat fully forward, I can inflate my air mattress to accommodate my 6'0" frame with room to spare.

My "steel Tent" is one of the unexpected joys of owning a X5.

The X5 definitely beats the camping designed Pontiac Aztek.
