stock speakers and amps

i have 2000 x5 4.4i with nav, i hae my front driver side door panel off to fix the window and need to do the same for the passenger side. I am debating installing my Infinity Perfect 6.5" components.

I have not measured the stock speaker yet, but from waht i hear they are of various sizes. Will I have to create speaker adapter/spacers to install my components?

Also where is the stock amp and is it worth keeping? I have a 6-channel infinity which is nice, but big.

Would you reccomend tapping into the existing wiring or running new wiring? not sure what the stock wiring is and if it is rated for my comps.

The stock amp is in the back on the left side behind the left cover and under the CD changer. If you want to change the speakers only you will have to replace the stock amp too as stock speaker's impedance and frequency are paired with the stock amp. If you just replace the speakers you will get crappy sound. One solution though to keep the stock amp and still get better speakers is to go for the speaker upgrade from BSW, one of the sponsor of this board. If you replace te sock amp then you go for a much more complex upgrade. You can keep the stock wiring as it is of good quality. IMO the BSW speaker upgrade plus a adding a sub amp and sub woofer will already improve your sound significantly

i think i will scrap the stock components and just use the wiring, why not when I have $1000 in equipment laying around. my amp takes RCA or line level inputs so will be easy to setup.
