Fan acts like it's on Steriods after WP replacement
Some more odds and end but after having my water pump replaced by the stealership, from a cold start only, till it reaches temp levels, the cooling fan is on STERIODS. I initially head a low volume high pitch noise that went away after the coolant came to temp. So today, I flip the hood, start the ignition, and holy beejezzuss, the fan is going super fast and I'm not sure if it's the clutch or what, but you can hear the high pitch noise and super rpm fan noise as well with the hood up. It is just a bad resistor ? Doesn't help that my SES light is on as well.... However, once coolant gets to temp, everything all dies down ! |

They did not touch the fan. Only pump, tstat, new S and AC belt.
It only stays on *hyper mode* till temp. Then all is normal.... |

Sounds like the clutch is US. It should be disengaged until up to normal working temps are reached and extra cooling is needed.

well, they need to remove the mech fan/clutch to change the WP. sounds like it's locked too tight when cold. it' won't do any harm except for the noise but you can always replace it. |

The noise turns out was from a cracked vac line.
I had them keep the X overnight to verify the viscous fan clutch that I described as it would only appear when cold. SA just got back to me stating that the codes are gone, no more high pitch noise issue but the fan is operating to spec .... Don't think the vac line would affect the fan ? I do understand the fan does come on at startup and shortly closes afterwards, but when I flipped the hood to isolate the noise issue, the fan was running at a MUCH Higher Rotational Rate than normal..... I am trying to wrap up meetings, etc so I would make it there and not do a afterhours pickup. I intend to walk with the service valet to start the car at time of pickup to verify the fan operations. Am I going nuts........or not ? |
