Red light by trip odometer

I noticed a red light under the word "miles" on the trip odometer (2006 X5 3.0). Later it disappeared. I could not find any reference for it in the owners manual. Anyone know what it means? Thanks

it means that your mileage has been tampered with...

but since it's off, i guess it means it's all good now

Do you mean that the odometer has been tampered with, or the trip odometer. (The red light is by the trip odometer.) How would one tamper with the mileage?

odometer

your vehicle stores your mileage in separate locations such as internally in the car, and on your key. if they don't match up, then that dot appears. can also come up other ways, though i can't really name another way...well...something like your cluster has been exchanged (not original cluster) can cause this too.

Makes sense. Thanks.

No cluster installations or any repair work, for that matter. I just noticed that it was on while driving. Next day it was off. I can't find any mention of it in any manual.
