How long can you go with a torn outer CV joint Boot? See PICS!!!

OK, so I decided to drive until the driver's side outer CV joint failed after I noticed the boot was torn. This is a longstanding question with many X5 owners - when will the CV joint fail after the CV boot is torn? It's less than 3K miles, actually, 2,358 miles for me! I found a great independent repair shop in CT to install the entire driver's side axle assembly for $672 plus tax. This has to be a great deal, right? I also added a Mobil1 synthetic oil change for $65 and a full detail for $99. What a great deal - I'll post pics later - my X5 looks great now she's been fixed, oiled and detailed!!!

Here's the link to my original post on my torn CV joint boot:

how much did he charge? Looks like just one is torn. Maybe the other one went too.
Might be worth it to just pay someone. Looking at the DIY it looks like a major pain in the ass.

Why would you wait for the joint/axle to go bad instead of replacing the boot when you notice the tear..

Its Martin Motorsport in Alexandria. You can search through bussiness directory. I dont think its a good idea to give out the phone number here. They specialize in BMW. Look at his M3 parked in his shop, that thing is a beast.

That looks pretty serious. I hope no dirt got into the bearing.
