Need Fuel filter, Rocker Cover Gasket, Front Drive shaft boot, Castor bushes

Hi

I need a few parts for the X

* Petrol Filter, any particular brand?

* Rocker Cover Gasket

* Front Drive shaft boots

* Castor bushes

I could get most of them online but while i'm at it, anything else that is related and is recommend to be change at the same time?
We have most DIY guide here right? Not sure about the fuel filter.

Which E53 do you have? Depending on mileage and since you are already in there, you may want to change out the Tie rods, Sway Links, Thrust arm. As for the motor, besides doing the Valve Cover Gaskets; you may want to consider doing the Spark plugs. And again, knowing which one you have and mileage will help us determine what else once you are in there.

depending on mileage and engine...belts, pulleys, plugs, upper and lower radiator hoses, expansion tank, etc...if it's the 4.4 m62 the list can get quite long.

+1 on what TTGTR said...we need to know year, engine and mileage to help out.

Lol, we know it's an E53; it's an E53 forum. When members ask for year, mileage, and type, we need to know of certain details. Such as if you had a 2006 X5 4.4 and had a bad VPG, but you never specified your year, we could be giving you information for the wrong engine.

Such as with your problem now, Slick and I are just throwing a bunch of ideas at the wall right now because we don't know if you have a 3.0i or a 4.4i or a 4.6is. These are all very different.

So, so far we know you have a 2002 with approx 150k km.

Now do you have a 3.0 or a 4.4 or a 4.6? Let us know.

Ok so you have a M62 motor with 150K miles on it.

At that mileage, if nothing else has been done to the car, the list gets long.

Engine:
Valve cover gaskets
Spark plugs
OSV
Belts
Pulleys
Hoses
Expansion Tank
Radiator (If you feel ambitious)
Water Pump
Thermostat
Upper and Lower Timing Covers
Chain guides (This is a huge job. Some people do it, some don't up to you)
Misc vacuum hoses
Change all fluids (Brake, PS, Coolant)
Fuel Filter

Drivetrain:
CV boots (It may be better to just replace the whole assembly instead of just the boot. Saves time)
Replace differential Fluids
Replace Transfer Case Fluids
Replace Tranny fluid (Some would say do it some say no. Do a search and make your own fate)

Suspension
Replace tie rods
Replace tension strut
Replace Wishbone Strut
Replace Wing Supports
Replace Ball joint from Tension Strut
Maybe Subframe bushings

Now for all this stuff, try your best to get Factory parts. Parts such as the fuel filter, fluids, and OSV will save a lot of headaches. For some reason, substitutes always create problems. As for suspension parts, many here go with other suppliers and have good results. I personally used the Meyle HD bushings and they are great. Parts such as belts and sparks can be obtained anywhere.

Had to re-read first post now. Lol.

Don't forget the spark plug gaskets. Make sure it's in the kit.

Change out the breather valves on both valve covers.

Petrol filter it doesn't matter. I used Oem. Note, not OE BMW.

Cv boots doesn't matter search here for opinions. I would change entire shaft soon anyway. Probably would be easier too.

Castor bushes I used OE. Figure they lasted 4 years, fairly cheap, and easy to do.

Inspect belts for cracks.

If you doing hoses, consider t-stat. Use BMW coolant.

I changed all my temp sensors when I did the T-stat. Fan and coolant. Cheap and easy to do. At least I know they are now deff good for at least another 6 years.

Plugs wouldn't hurt. Use a torque wrench. I consider this a very neglected step by most.
