Don't know about that much hp without some other mods needed to get done. I've done the powerchip without any problems so far. Only 10hp but I can feel the difference.

$1300 for a "claimed" 30+hp. Are you insane??? I bet at best it's 5-10hp, and after 20 minutes of driving you won't (even if you ever do) feel any hp difference. In fact, that "claimed" 30+hp is most likely above 5000 rpms, so unless you just drive around mashing the gas pedal you'll never really feel the chip (imo that 30hp claim is pure bs). Even if it really did gain 30hp, it's not going to make much difference in a 5000+ lb vehicle.

To the other poster that claimed he could feel the additional 10hp, trust me, it's all in your head. You will NOT see any difference in 5000+lb vehicle by adding 10hp.

Being an engine builder (800+hp motors), I've been there, done that, from chips to 1000hp twin turbo setups. I laugh each time some newbie is willing to plunk down big bucks for a "magic" chip.

In order for a chip to REALLY make a difference, the motor has to be modified and then tuned on a dyno. A bone stock X5 with an aftermarket chip might pick up 5hp tops. However, same motor with a cam/heads/intake/exhaust/throttle body swap and then tuned on a dyno with the appropriate s/w (where the final tune is burned to a chip) can see 25-100+hp improvements because all the chip is really doing is to get all the parts working together with the correct air/fuel timing mixtures, injector pulse widths, fuel curves, etc. Don't you think BMW already maximized performance with the stock setup? They most likely did and then de-tuned it just a hair in the event someone puts in cheap/bad gas (to save BMW the headache of a blown head gasket).

Perfect example - a friend built a 408 stroker for his Mustang, with a Vortech blower. He was hoping for 600 rwhp on pump gas. We dyno'd it - 575rwhp. So we hooked it to the wide-band 02 senser and my trusty laptop. An hour later dyno numbers were 730 REAR wheel hp...all on pump gas with no other changes. This is where a chip comes into play. All that other crap you see and read in the magazines about huge gains with their chip is just that - crap. I'll say it again...a chip on a BONE stock car is going to do virtually nothing.

Lastly, there is NO reason a chip should cost $1300!!! An off-the-shelf chip should be $300 tops. For $1300 they should be dyno tuning your car for a 6 hour session.

, that's what it should be 300 to 400 tops. I only paid 400 for my Powerchip and all I gained was about 10 extra hp. That's it, the guy's at Powerchip told me that to only other way to get more hp is to mod the engine out. But that means more money and maybe more headaches later on. BMW has done a great job with the vehicle no doubt and yes they have detuned the engine a little for the average "JOE".... I do feel the difference in my X now with the chip. But after a month now, I can't really tell anymore and that's why I'm only going to add an exhaust and stop there.

GOOD LUCK...

Total BS. Ask them to back it up to the fact that if you get your car dyno'd then chip it then dyno it, if it doesn't have a 30hp/20tq gain, they give you your money back. I guarantee they aren't going to back it up...cause it just ain't true.
