Hi all, A few days ago my self-leveling warning light appeared on the dash. Now the back end is 2-3 inches lower than normal ride height. Is it Ok to drive like this? Any ideas as to what went out?
I'm assuming I lost the compressor, a seal, or something that let the air out of the bags, but I'm hoping someone here may be able to offer some insight to save me from a trip to the stealership. Thanks for any help.

Self leveling inactive came up on the display so i brought it in to the dealer. The dealer said it was the rear air bag. The back never really droped that much. I've been having a problem with the front end falling down onto the bump stops. The truck has been at the dealer for over a week and they said it was going to be another week or so before the parts get here. It's under warrenty so I don't know what the cost to repair is.

Wpcmac,
I had some suspension trouble a while back...the dealership replaced under warranty the compressor, the module and some sensors...It truly was a pain in the @ss and I was X5-less for about 3 weeks...hope you can get it fixed without spending too much time and $ ![]()

The most common cause is water or moisture in the ride height sensors. If you have wet weather/frost or have gone through some water it can get in and upset the settings. Bottom line is that the dealer must play around with it as it is a very complicated (electronically) bit of gear. Don't even attempt to yourself.... Cheers
