4.6 Oil Change Help

Just traded my '01 3.0 X5 for a '03 4.6 and am attempting to change the oil and have become stuck on just trying to get the drain plug off!
17 mm is too big, and it is stripping the bolt, 16 is too small....
So I try the hex and 5 is too small and 6 is too large...

What gives? Is there some special wrench size for this? SAE sizes wouldn't fit, either.

This is the last thing I would have thought would stop me in my tracks! Anyone know the correct size/tool to use?

First of all, unscrew the oil filter enought to get air into the system. Remove the oil cap. Then try to unscrew the drain plug. Make sure its the right hex size. Good luck..
