35% tint and cops

Have you ever been pulled over for 35% tint in the front. VA, MD, D.C region. The tint guy told me its illegal but cops just leave SUVs alone for 35% tint.

Missouri laws have become a bit relaxed...

In Missouri, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.

Front Side Windows Must allow more than 35% of light in.

Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.

Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN MISSOURI?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.

Front Side Windows Must not be more than 35% reflective.
Back Side Windows Must not be more than 35% reflective.

Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned.
Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.

Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.

Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.

Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

Getting a Medical Exemption is extremely hard in the state of Mo.

Check out www.tintcenter.com for more states information.

35% is LEGAL in MD so I don't think you'd be pulled for it. In general practice, police don't site tint unless there is another violation. If your tint is legal, all you have to do is get it checked and your done. Tint guy is a moron.

Cars are legal in MD for 35% on D/P windows and rear. SUV/Minivan are good with privacy glass on the back windows excluding the front pass/driv.

He could be quoting this: http://www.berwynheightspd.com/tinted%20windows.htm

But it is horseShizzy because sunlight inherently breaks down the films over all reduction, making it once again....legal.

I think that cars that standout are more likely to be pulled over.

I think this is true for bright red cars and I wonder if cars with high tint are the same?

And a for instance, our X5 has 5% tint on the rear window and 20% on the other windows...including d/p fronts...

Never pulled for tint. I've been stopped for speeding, and still not cited. Now if you had a car with the same tint, you'd probably be nabbed.

when you say 'front', do you mean front windshield? if so, then I thought it was illegal to tint that at all, except for a few inches at the top.
