Do i have the "whistle" problem?

It's not really a whistle, it's more like the sound of a puncture (like when letting air out of a tire, pssssss). I can't tell where it's coming from, somewhere from the engine or behind the dash. It's not audible at low speeds, but becomes very noticeable at 70+ mph. It happens either when I let go of the gas pedal or when I accelerate, but goes away when I'm maintaining the same speed. It also completely goes away when I turn off climate control.

Any ideas?

I might have the dreaded whistle too (06 3.0). I thought it was wipers too. However, if you turn the wipers on, thereby changing the wind direction it should go away, yet not. I sounds like it might be coming from the top of the windshield above the mirror. Only at 65+ mph and on especially windy days, it's inconsistent.

I also have a creak...the panorama roof, could this just be cold weather related?

Thanks all.

My problem summarized with the following:

1. hissing sound from engine at higher speeds (70+ mph)
2. heard when I let go of the gas pedal (coasting) or when quickly accelerating. Goes away when maintaining cruising speed.
3. Goes away when I turn off the blower/ac/fan.

i have the same issue - i was going to bring it into the dealership.

mine is tied in with the blower/fan on/off, not the AC on/off.

Dealer told me it's coming from the AC compressor and that it's normal.

thanks sam,

I will take my car in and see if they can replace the compressor - i'm pretty sure that you shouldn't hear this chirping sound when driving
