My friend has a 2001 X5 manual, very hard to find in the States.

Got one here in Toronto. 01 Sport in Topaz Blue with a black interior.

As the story goes, BMW Canada accidently ordered mine and another when somebody forgot to check off Automatic. It took months to sell them.

I might be selling soon. Do you think anybody will be interested in a manual?

I bought one in December. They are not too hard to find, but you'll need to do some digging. Both eBay and autotrader.com allow you to reifne your search to seek only manuals, and if you do I'm sure you'll find at least a dozen available at any given time. I looked at and drove three in my area over a 3-4 week span, then ended up buying one in Chicago (because it was ideally equipped). In any case, if you're patient they are out there and they are usefully cheaper than autos on the used marked.

If this link works there are 8 on eBay as I type this. There will be many, many more on autotrader, but many are often listed as manuals erroneously.

Good luck!

Have an '01 3.0 5 speed manual here...
as RamVA suggested do some digging and imo,
hunt up a 6 speed manual and pass on the 5 spd.

The 6 spd at least gives you some semblence of an
overdrive at highway speeds. If you find one, lean
on them hard as Stlrs don't like to take them in and
they are generally hard to move.

Only the 3.0i version had a manual option. The V8s never got a manual.

I know there was on floating around at an independent dealership. My dealership VOB had one a month ago with sport but its gone now.

Diff'n strokes, but in 60K miles these past 5 3/4 years, I have never
felt the 3.0 was "too slow" for any situ I have ever encountered.

It took me awhile to find mine fully loaded with navigation. I went to cleveland to get mine and drove it back to florida.
