WEIRD Vibrations when going more than 100 km/h!!! HELP!

hello all, well here i am again complaining about yet another problem with my X5. Im just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ....

Only when driving more than 100 km/h, the steering wheel, passanger seat and driver seat start vibrating intensly, and if i let go of the steering wheel the car drifts off to the side. This is the first time its happened, which was a couple days ago and hasnt gone away. This problem only occurs when im highway, dosnt happen at all when im on side roads.

Anyone have any similar problems ?

try balancing your tires...although do it at a shop where they put the weights neatly and in the same color as the wheels...

...how wide are your wheels?

Most likely the issue. How many miles on the X, did you buy it new or used?

I had the same problem from 100 km/h to 120 km/h. I found 1 1/2 liter water in my tyres!!!!! If you balance your tyres and nothig change, check inside.

Look for a shop that has a Hunter GSP9700 tire balancer. This state of the art machine will quickly analyze the wheel, tire, and its relationship to each other to optimize the setup. You can locate a shop on their website: http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/ba...159T/index.htm

Does the vibration disappear if you drive faster? If that is the case then balancing the tires should fix the problem.

Agree with everyone else here - check balance first and make sure you go to a reputable shop.

I had a very similar problem. As soon as I put on my winters I noticed a vibration at 55-65 that went away above and below these speeds. All was well with my 19" summer set up the morining of the switch so I knew it was tire/wheel related. The winters were supposedly balanced the day of mounting - I was a bit dubious about this so I went to another tire shop and had them checked and all four wheels were out of balance. No problems since then.....I did get the original tire shop to refund my mounting and balancing money and reimburse me for the work at the second shop.

This just happened to me too. Only when I got to 100km if I went 140km it was gone and never there at slower speeds. It was a snow build up in the rim. I cleaned the tires and all was fine. With the ammount of snow we recieved over the past week you might want to check that too.
