That's a very clean and creative solution. The E46 M3's are the worst since the holes would be so visible and so damaging. My dealer knew better and as a rule, did not install the front plate on any E46 M3 unless they cleared it with the customer. They did however, drill two holes in my X5 bumper. I believe that as of June 1st, here in California, a car dealer can be fined if they sell a car without a front license plate holder. This type of rig would be a nice option.

You don't have to make holes and put the front plates. I did not and I know several others who have also not mounted the front plate. I just told the dealer to give me the holder and not make any holes.

Dealer will give you the plate holder if you ask not to put it. Its up to you if you want to put it or not. The part # 51117129858 (LICENCE PLATE BASE)
