Exclamation My Transmission Went into Safe Mode today, does that mean i Its gone???

My Transmission went into a safe mode toda. I was getting on to the highway accelerating normaly and at once my rpms went up like it was on nutreal but it was in gear, and then i showed me on the dash computer that is in safe mode. I drove it to my mechanich he hooked it up to the DIS [computer] And reset the tranny, but still same problem. Next step he said he will replace the transmission computer. Can somebody tell me if its the tranny or the computer, and what should i do. I never heard poping, grinding or any noises. And it a 2002 x5 4.6is has 180 000 km
