WTK: Gear shifter sticks and won't go into "D"? Problems coming?

I have had this happen a couple of times. I'm reversing out of my garage, I have to turn the wheel about 45o angle, and then the shifter will not go to drive position. I shift it back and forth a couple of time and then it works OK?
Is this a sign of on-coming tranny problems?
As I said, this has only happened twice to me, but I'm concerned about it.
Thanks for the info.

ok, this will sound weird but i think you should take it into consideration. my dealer once told me the the ashtray is not supposed to be a storage for coins, the coins may slip out of the tray and back down the gear shifter and get stuck in there. the sa told me he had about 10 cases in the last 2 years. just like he told me the cigarette lighter is not supposed to be cellphone charger. i laughed but he was serious about it.

I bought the X5 used last month and the previous owner did use the ash tray as a coin holder. I'll have to get it looked at.

Thanks for the tip! No pun intended!
