How to play DVDs on the OEM Sat/Nav/TV of a 2003 X5
Is there any easy way to connect an external Video source to the OEM TV system of a 2003 X5 (such as a PS2 for example), or a boot mounted DVD player? If so, what's the most cost effective way to do this and do I really need the TV-in-motion cables or can the switch just be disabled at the handbrake? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Kev.

You can buy a TV in motion cable with video and sound cables. I have it on my X5 with DVD player attached. You can buy the cable on ebay or good car accessories outlet.
You cannot disconnect the switch at the hand brake as another "in motion sensor" is also located somewhere else.

Thanks again, but the real question is, what kind of hardware can I add to my system (not including the tv-in-mothion), to play DVDs ?
Is a PS2 connectible using some kind of interface? Or is there a 12v DVD player that can be boot mounted and has the right kind of bus connectors to loop into the OEM system? Another question comes to mind. Here in the UK, they are wiping out the old analogue TV soon. Is there a DVB upgrade to the tuner available? Thanks again.

The cable I'm talking about does all that. You dont actually loop into the NAV DVD player, you loop into the harness under your spare wheel as thats where the TV connection is. The after market harness enables TV in Motion and has phono out and in so you can add a 12V DVD player, Playstation, freeview TV box etc. I bought my cable from ebay for I think £50.00 and fitted the rest myself. The DVD player was around £90 and if your anyway a GOOD diy man it you will have no problems fitting.

Nice one. I've seen the all-singing-all-dancing cable for £200 from toysinyourcar.com which also provides stereo AV and in motion. I've got a slimline PS2 so just need the 12/240v adapter and to decide where to moun the the PS2. Guess I'll need some kind of RF controller, but do they work in cars (ie. semi-faraday cages).... hmmm sounds like fun tho ...!
