Used 05 4.4i - Good Price?
Its an 05 4.4i basically loaded (sport, premium, nav, cold weather, etc) and has ~27k miles on it. The car fax is clear, but it has had two owners. They quoted me $39,999 and would be able to give me a little bit of a better price if I traded in my 01 3.0 with 98k miles minus the price of my car of course. What do you think? |

sounds too good to be true. I saw a 3.0 05 with 45k for 34,995 - so that sounds like a really good deal. interesting that it already has 2 owners though, and that low mileage - get the VIN and check the dealer records.

doesn't matter how you work it out you would lose money on this deal. $39K for an '05 sounds crazily high. unless you gave them your trade in then you would be around $37K, but you will lost those $2K on the trade-in value they offer, so they would end up selling you the car for $39K, but in fact they really want to do the trade-in deal because they already know how much it cost them to get the '05 so they might end up getting "free" trade-in (trust me they would offer a ridiculously low price). Ask them to lower the price before talking trading in or just walk out of there. Here is how it should work out, negotiate the car price $35K for example, and ask how much you would get from the car you trading in (kkb) if you are satisfied with the value they give your trade in. then deal. if either one of the 2 things above doesn't look good to you, walk out, find the new one. dont combine the car price and the trade-in in your negotiation. it never works in your favor.
-negotiate the car price -finance rate -trade-in value last (stick with kbb or else you lose) -deal.

Sounds good, KBB had private party sales in the mid-30's but suggested retail (aka dealer) at 43,000.

Yeah, they originally had it for sale at 44k but marked it down. Would 35k be a really nice price for it?

Well if 43 was MSRP and mid-30's was private party, then yes...35 would be good. Because I'm at work by 5am, this was a late day. I usually get up around 3:45AM.
