Hi,
I am gping to upgrade stock audio on 2004 x5 non-dsp.
I have 2 options:
1) DSP retrofit
2) BSW speakers upgrade withoup dsp.

Personally, I would do neither, IMO.

I would go to a local reputable car audio shop in your area, and have them give you options. I just would prefer a better amp matched with whatever speakers you are going with.

I added the BSW Stage 1 and their X108 Sub woofer to my non-dsp system and I like the results a-lot. Plus you don't lose your factory look or the on board computer functions. But that's going to be a $1,200 hit if you do both. I went all directions on this and stuck with my stock system and for me, it's great. Good luck on which ever direction you choose! (and getting a audio shop opinion isn't bad advice either; get all the info so you can make the most informed decision)

I would go with the BSW speakers (10 speakers plus SUB). There is no need to replace your stereo itself. I did this with mine and it sounds awesome.

another option is the JL stealthbox, but thats just adding a "stealth" sub in your X, almost the same as the BSW, just another option...

actually i might get it, its next on my list... Sean from SRaudioworks told me i caught the "bug" too, hahaha, the bug that makes me itch for another mod in my X...

It's an incremental upgrade - but it's better than stock speakers. You'd see the most change from the Sub addition after Stage 1 speakers - maybe someone from BSW can chime in here on this - I did the Stage 1 speakers first and waited a few months to buy my Sub but you are headed in the right direction.

If your budget is limited, go for a homemade sub to start with. There are plenty of threads here showing how.
BSW stage 1 is a great upgrade, but the biggest change is adding a sub.

BSW sub followed by BSW speaker upgrade. I don't like messing around with the electronics in the BMW's for some reason. IDK that is my personal choice, but I shy away from it myself. Plus I like the on board computer
