Question Break Linings/Pads

My "Check Break Linings" light just came on. How long do I have to replace the pads? I saw a post that it would cost $1K for all four at the dealer. Is that accurate?

Also, about a week before the light came on, I started hearing a strange, almost electronic sound when I turn. The sound seems to come from the front left wheel and is worst when the X is cold. Is this related to the break linings, or might it be a different problem?

TIA

I just replaced mine (front only)
here in Saudi it costed me around 175$ for the front pads and sensor (parts only without labour)

I recommend to change urs as soon as possible.. delays can hurt your discs.

Thanks Essam. Did you replace them yourself, or have someone else do it? I don't want to pay the stealer what they are charging.

Brakes pads are not that difficult to change. You can do it yourself if you have the tools and some know how, or find a reliable shop. Just make sure the wear sensor is changed too, and check your rotor thickness. Do a search for lots of write ups re changing pads.

I went to a mechanic specialized in BMW ... he used to work at the dealer and he has his own workshop now ... when compared to dealer labour prices, he is taking half the price or maybe less
