Just swapped oem haloes for oem xenon and....

nothing

I have a facelift x5 and bought a set of oem xenon units from a local salvage yard.

I just unplugged my existing units and plugged in the xenon units. All angels and high beam work but the dash says "check lowbeam headlights" and the xenons dont ignite.

Not sure what to do next now, maybe bulbs are faulty (car where xenons came from was involved in a side collision, nothing major though).

Does anyone have any suggestions or any experience in doing the swap? I can solve the error message if it doesnt rectify itself with the help of Zulu95 (Thanks very much P).

Any tips or advice would be great.

Cheers guys,

JJ

You need to get Xenon ballasts. You can't use stock wiring on Xenon lights.

yes exactly you need the factory HID set up too..go back to the salvage yard and get the ballasts...you need everything to make it work.

Sorry guys,

The ballasts are installed. They are on both headlights underneath.

usually when you swap out for XENON lights and you use factory BMW ballasts, you will get the light off error. The only way to get rid of the error code is to use a relay or get non-oem ballasts.

However, the lights should turn on.

Hmm

I can rid the error no prob, my issue ast the moment is getting the lights to turn on. I am thinking of replacing the bulbs but an expensive step if the bulbs aren't faulty.

I am reluctant to put the meter across the ballasts due to the serious voltage being transformed too so very confused at this point!!!!

can you connect the ballasts to the halogen lights to see if they will turn on?

Dont know if that is possible.

My guess is the bulbs are bad

Just borrow a working set of ballast and bulb from your friend to test. Very streight forward thing.
