Water Pump Replacement Info. for X5

Does anyone know if there has been a "How To" showing how to replace a water pump on an X5 (it is a 2001 4.4). I can't find anything in articles, but I may be missing something. Just checking. I may just have to jump in and go it alone. Thanks in advance!

I am not aware of a how to but it would be an excellent resource.

Here is a good thread on X5 waterpumps:

it's basically remove stuff that's in your way (such as mech fan, mas air, belt and tubing, etc) to remove the hoses and get to the WP.

you'll need to remove the damper and pulley to access a WP bolt.

Thanks for the help. I took everything off and started the car. I can't find any leak. The damn thing was leaking at the airport but now it has stopped. I can't figure out where the water was coming from. I will keep watching. I left the skid plates off under the car to make it easier.

if your WP has over 80k miles you should replace it anyway.

check the coolant reservior for leaks they'll hairline crack up by the little hose connector.

If you read past threads, the water pump typically goes bad between 60K-80K (plastic vanes) - if your X5 is in this range, better to replace WP, thermostat, & belts - already had it done to my 2001

Thanks fast4d . I will get it hot and then look. Maybe that is the issue...it needs to be real hot for the pressure to build then it may show around a connector. ???
