A few important questions

Good day everyone. I noticed another X5 close the rear trunk door today and it brought up some questions on my behalf.

I saw a newer (maybe 2004-2006) 3.0 X5 today and the lady had the rear trunk door open and when she went to close it she just put it down slowly and it sounded like the door closed on its own without slamming it shut. Is this the way it should be? Because mine is not.

Also, with regards to the sunroof. Should the sunroof pull all the way back so that none of it is visible or should it stick out a bit? My sunroof sticks out about 2-3 inches when retracted. My X5 is a 2002 4.4 without the sport package or cold weather package but with eveyr other option in case that matters.

Thanks.

Good to know about the sunroof. I was concerned about it. With regards to the trunk, I was conncered because this lady just laid the door back down without closing it hard at all and the door made a locing noise and I saw it pull in and shut.

Don't know what year it started, but the newer models have the soft-close feature. Just push the hatch firmly and it pulls itself closed. I always lower mine gently (so I'm not slamming it and making parts loosen up over time) and then I just push on the wiper mount a bit and that's enough to trigger the mechanism to close it. Nice feature...

i have 2004 X and it does that, no need to slam the liftgate, just press it gently and the motor closes it for you... same on opening it...

So, was this added on 04-06 models on not on previous models? I am just trying to make sure if my 2002 has it or not because my X5 doesn't close like that.

Whistle

I have a 2005 sport, I was told by the $tealer not to allow the boot (trunk) to slam. It has a self closing motor that could be damaged by slamming.
