Taillight burnt out and dealer says i need to buy new one?

Taillight burnt out and i went to the dealer and they said that my whole light was shot and needed to be replaced.... Has this happened to anybody else?

Will a taillight for a 04-05 work on an 01?

thanks

I've changed a tail light and brake light bulb recently (need to be a contortionist to get to those and get a good grip on them), but nothing drastic like the entire assembly, did you have any water damage or leakage? Is it on the driver or passenger side?

No damage at all, its the rear driver....

One of the bulbs stopped working so we put in a new bulb and socket and it just blew right away...

Krunk, sorry to ask such an annoying detail question, but did it blow or just not work? Is the filament inside the bulb blown? It took me several tries to get the bulb in correctly when I changed mine, and I thought at first they sold me a bad bulb.

I'd recommend trying to do it again, like I said, it took me several tries to get the bulb to seat properly in the socket and the socket to seat properly in the taillight assembly. Because of where it's located, I found it to be a pain in the arse to be sure I had it fit correctly.

Plastic part... Its around $160 at dealer...

What a pain in the a** though.... i tried another set(socket and bulb) and it didn't work either, looks like im going to have to buy a new light.

There is a tail light on ebay right now but its for a 04-05, will this fit my 01??? save some money...

Thanks guys

This happened to me twice. When changing the bulb didn't fix the problem, I removed the entire tailight assm and found that one of the little busses that carry the voltages had broken loose from the housing. Also there was some corrosion where the bulb socket makes contact w/ the bus. A little scotchbrite and hot gluegun action and all was well again. IMO, these units are very cheapy made for this caliber automoble If it's still under warranty, keep taking it back.

This has happen to both of my rear taillight assemblies.. I had to removed the assembly clean the burnt or pitted area where the bulb socket fits, then heat the area up with a soldering iron and fill in the area level with solder to provide good area for contact to the bulb housing to get power and it has worked good so far....
