strange noise on start-up from engine PS

Hey,

On Satruday, I also changed my PS fluid. I removed the ATF from the pump and put in a whole bottle of Lucas powersteering conditioner. The thck stuff. now, when the car is cold, I start it and it makes a little scream then goes away. I gues this would be from the thick Lucas fluid in the pump?

I have to remove at least half of it and put in ATF again to lower the viscosity of the oil in the pump.

anyone else have this issue?

Slipping belt?

That usually gives the symptoms described.

The squeak you hear is the belt trying to turn the pump and the high viscousity fluid trying to stop the pump from spinning.

When it is warm the lucas is closer to the proper viscosity. If you leave that in there you are going to blow the seals out of your PS pump or even worse, the rack.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the pwr steering situ?
Noises are tough to diagnose even in person. Might be the
puller idler dampner: mine was doing that on start up, as the
temps dropped. Had it replaced and noise is gone.

Dunno...
Good Luck, mD

the reason why i assume this

is because it started to happen right after i added the Lucas additive inside the reservoir.

maybe i have to reflush it again?
