can anyone help me with wiring diagrams please?

i had a look at the "Online WDS" but i'm lost.
i have an '02 3.0i and the HVAC control panel has been giving me some problems. i posted about it cutting out intermittently a while back. the panel goes blank, no lights, no temp display. buttons don't work, fan dead. i don't think it's the FSR since most people with that failure seem to indicate that the panel is still on.
anyway, i ended up taking it out. i took it apart to see if there was anything obvious. there wasn't but when i put it back together and back in place it worked. and it has been working fine for a few months now.
up until now that it. now it's failing consistently about 15 minutes into a drive. it will not go back on until i leave the car for a while.
so i pulled it out again and discovered something new; there are four connectors on back and when i pull out a specific one, the unit comes back to life. i plug it back in the unit is dead again. it is the smallest plug with three wires coming out of it; a black, a white, and a black and white striped one and it's all the way on the driver's side of the panel.
so back to the WDS, is there one that shows what comes out of the back of the HVAC control panel? i don't know too much about reading these and i'd like to know what those wires go to. could they go to this infamous FSR??
thanks to anyone who can help me out here.

These unit do give problems and it sounds like you need to have the HVAC head unit repaired.
There are 2 (at least) companies who offer repair and have ads in the Roundel mag. I would try contacting them: bmwhvac.com or nhspeedometer.com and see if they can help.

i'm not 100% sure that it's the control unit

thanks a lot zulu. i think you helped me out when i had the problem earlier on.
i actually talked to that guy you suggested. he said he just replaces some capacitors but he wasn't too familiar with the X5 unit. and North Hollywood speedo said they don't do it. in any case, sending my unit out through customs and then getting it back again is a) expensive and b) a hassle.
i'd like to know what the problem is before i shell out the money for a new control unit. they're USD 600.
i was just able to identify the connector as X613. now i need to find out where it goes. it's bizarre that the unit works when i *disconnect* the plug. it makes me wonder if it's what's at the other end of those wires that is the problem.

actually, i may have figured it out

after trying to figure out those wiring diagrams for quite a while now, i think i figured out how they work.
the connector is X613
the wires from it go to connector X661
which connects to… (drum roll please) M154 "Ventilation flap actuator" which i believe controls the airflow to the rear seats. will check it out tomorrow.
those diagrams are powerful if you know how to use them. trouble is figuring out how to use them.

The "flap" may actually be part of the air blend system. I would try buying the motor and replacing it to eliminate it from the equation.
