Rust Protection

For those of us living in the colder climates (Toronto, Canada, and some parts of US) we have to deal with salt and snow during the this time....

So what are the various Rust protection options for X5's or do we need it or not..

My brother's putting a petroleum based rust preventative, like a oil spray done by KROWN Rust Protection http://www.krown.com/.
They Spray the underpart of the Car with a Oil Based spray and then drill holes into the Door area to inject this into various parts where rust can start forming. He has a 2000 TransAm which he going to get done, it costs around $150 and you have to do it every 2 years.

Now should I get this done on my 04 X5?

Don't need it IMHO.
All I have ever done is good clean/wax at start of winter, one in between weather permitting, and wash it fairly frequently.

All that drilling in door panels will probably promote rust. Did you see how big those holes are? Not to mention greasy repair if you ever need to work on any panel that's sprayed or underneath the car. Sounds like a bad idea.

Not required at all on a new vehicle. These treatments were developed prior to the use of galvanized steel for body panels.

For a used vehicle, the use of these products can actually be a negative as they trap corrosive elements against the metal. Skip it.

Im in the GTA also, had a few BMWs, all have seen winters. Don't waste your $$$, rust proofing on modern German cars is not needed.
