BMW had a lot of spare parts left over after the V12 (S70/2, 6.0L) LMR LeMans racer effort, they green lighted the X5 V12 LM project to set a 'ring track record.
It lapped the N'b'ring in 8min 5sec. The engine came from this......

Matt, if you PM Nick P, he has fitted the 6-speed MT from the E39 M5 I believe, to his 4.6iS.
Build thread is titled "4.6is 6-speed manual" and I believe he hails from Germany.
