climate control annoyance

so i get really annoyed when i turn the car on and it decides for me that i want the AC on when i really dont, so i have to then turn it off. any way to tell the dam computer not to turn on my climate control on its own unless i specifically tell it to?

Run HVAC on "manual": you set the temp, you select the vent(s) postion(s), you push the "snowflake" when you want A/C or defrost.
Pretty simple...GL,md

Punch off that "Auto" button on right side...run on "manual";
for exp:
I keep temp set to 60/both sides, "fan" on low, vent position either at floor or mid. When I start up, that's how it stays configured, And remains, until I make an adjustment.

If it's warm or gonna be warm, I set vent positions, hit "snowflake" and turn up fan.
Same for if it's cold.

This may not work for you or others that spend all day in car, hopping in and out, etc. It works for me rolling down the mtn to the club or on trips. The key is you want that "auto" setting off and you want outside air, not re-circ'd air. GL,md

maybe im not getting something, lol its kinda hot here in NYC.
all i want is that every time i start the car the vents do not turn on, right now i end up having to press the fan speed button down so that the whole vent system goes off. i want it to stay that way

Dealer confirmed that this can not be changed. The fan will come on every time you start the car. MD is suggesting you turn off 'Auto' so that the AC compressor or heat won't come on when you start the car and crank up the fan to get to the right temp... which is a great idea. You will just get outside air which should be better than getting blasted with AC or heat when you don't want it. No, it doesn't make sense that the fan blows every time you start the car. It is one of the things that makes you go

ahh thanx guys much better, but the question i always had if the temp is on all it does is just blow the fan so the AC compressor wont go on, now what if i raise the temp? will that turn on the heat or just close the vent enough ? also if i do that does that make the X drink more gas cuz at todays prices i cant afford that

NCX: Thanks for the translation, lol!
NYC BMW guy...I'm confused,too.
If you have the fan speed set to low, it blows very little from whatever vent position you have on; if you turn the fan speed "below low", it turns off the entire system.

My opin is to hop in car, with fan at low and temp at "60", drive or idle the car for a couple mins, hit the snowflake/AC button and adjust fan speed and vent position. I'm missing something, maybe, but this stuff is not real technical, as I'm an ol'fool and not very technical, either, ;>) GL,md

i just think its too hot here in nyc and we are both missing the whole point of the question lol.
in any case i understand the whole mechanics of it just not the logic being an IT professional its really annoying when you need to read a CAR manual and not a computer one

The thought behind the auto climate is that everyone has an optimal temperature setting that they wish to drive in. So much so that the X remember your last setting and restores that condition upon the next ignition. If you air is blasting you upon re-ignition it is due to the fact that your cabin is well outside of your last setting and it is trying to correct that condition as quickly as possible.

This can not be done quickly enough for me in auto mode, which is why I start my car hit MAX and then load kids, groceries, soil, etc before sliding into the drivers seat. Per previous suggestion if you are in manual air with blower setting at 1 bar then upon re-ignition your car will resume in that mode with only a whisper of air coming from your vents.
