My trunk door is POSSESSED!

Funny thing has been happening. Every once in a while the rear door opens with no rhyme or reason. I happened today as I was driving on the freeway...Has this happened to anyone else. Is this Emily Rose?

Thanks,
David

2 most common causes are a chafed harness or a bad electronic latch. There have been TSBs for both.

If you are still covered by a warranty then you should go to the dealer and get it fixed. Otherwise, take it to a good independent mechanic. Either way, at least now you know what the problem is.

I had a bad upper latch switch replaced under warranty. It would clatter repeatedly when activited.

This happened to me when a small amount of moisture got inside the lock. I disassembled it (easy, only a few screws) and dried it out and the problem has not occured again.

yeah, this just started happening to me. I was driving down the road the other day, and it just opened up. I had to put my BMW in park, on the road, and get out, walk back, and reclose my trunk that opened itself for no apparent reason - sucks! Let us know what the stealer says.

I actually did the furniture pad fix for the squeaky back gate, ever since tightening that all up I have had no noises and it hasn't opened on its own since. Could be a coincidence, but it was really annoying either way.
