First WTF...illegal bulbs usually draw too much power and will f-up your wiring but...anyway...
Your manual will tell you the bulb sizes. - or - http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...de/default.htm

look at the wattage. if you're simply going for the "bluish-I wish I were HID light" look, go for PIAA or something like that. Don't do the Nokyaasdfasdfwew EBay lights. Watch wattage, look for a bulb with 55w draw NO MORE. Silverstars are also very good...you can get them at Walmart.

the philips Blue Vision are DOT compliant and good
i have them on another car ('cause the X has HID) and they are a nice and crisp white without being stupid fake "i wanna be HID" blue. i had tried the Osram/Sylvania ones but they kept on blowing out every 6 months. the philips are great.
in fact, i have them on the high beams and position lights (W5W bulbs) and they go well with the HID. not such a yellow contrast. |

I have Xenons on my X5, but on other BMWs (such as my Z3s) the bulbs are usually 9006 and 9005. I run PIAA H4s in my M3, and those are very good but cost a bit more. Be aware they do run hotter than stock though, and sometimes light housing lenses can crack from the additional heat. Wiring can also be damaged from increased wattage.
