Battery went Dead, now in German/Metric

2001 X5 4.4i

So I drive it home friday night, park in the garage, no problems. Saterday morning it is totaly dead. Not 1 volt in it.

So, put the charger on it at 10a for about 45 min. Open the door, everything seems to be good. Put the key in and it starts right up. But.. Navi is in German, and the dash is dead. No tach or anything. ABS light is on but that is it. And the fuel gauge is bouncing from empty to full. I didn't drive it as I figured it would leave me stranded.

I left it on the charger and took another car. So, my question is...

Anyone ever had a dash totaly turn off?
Any idea how to go from German to English?
Metric to Standard?
Where should I start hunting this power issue..?

Thanks for everyones help. I have used this forum to help me in many things. I am sorry for only bringing up my problems and not sharing my love for my X5 also. I'll be sure to do that soon.

You know, now that I think about it. Walking to the car to drive home, I hit the unlock button and we all got in. Then I noticed the emergency flashers were on. I just figured I bumped the switch. Turned them off and went about my business.

I wonder if it was trying to tell me something then. Like the alarm had a problem or something.

Hmmm....

With a full battery, car starts and drives fine. Only the speedo works, everything else is dead. And still in German Nav. (I think it is German, Not English anyway)

So, pulled each fuse related to the instrument cluster (3). Something in the processes reset it I guess. After checking each fuse and finding them all to be good, put the key in and started it up. Everything is back to normal. Trip went back to 0. All the radio presets and Nav addresses were retained. Not sure about the service lights as they were all green to start with. Had to re-enter time and date.

Moral of the story, we'll see in 12 hours if it is dead again...
