Sticky passenger door lock

I am having a problem with my 2001 X5. When I lock or unlock my X5, the passenger door sometimes locks or unlocks, sometimes it does not. It seems like it always tries--the punger always moves a little, sometimes half-way, sometimes all the way. It is like it is sticky or something.

Any ideas?? Perhaps some grease???

This is not an uncommon problem. Do a search and you will find quite a few discussions about this issue. More likely than not it is a bad lock actuator.

Bad lock actuator. I just had my drivers side done.

i did it myself. took a couple of hours. about a 7 on a scale of 10 for difficulty. the part cost me a little over USD 100 at today's exchange rates.
the guy at the parts desk said that sometimes they take them apart and clean them and re-grease them which works but i couldn't see how to get the thing apart and wanted to get it done quickly.
a guy name youry here started a couple of posts where i put some pics so you can see what's involved if you feel like doing it yourself.

My passenger door lock is sticky as well. It only sticks if the outside temp is below 40 degrees, otherwise it fucntions normally.

Ditto, both my locks used to stick - used powder graphite on driver's side - now it rarely sticks - Oh, that was also the lock actuator I had replaced - it still would stick - I'll have to remember to do the passenger side one of these days

I fixed one of my locks today, simply unscrewed the button from the lock shaft and found it was covered in a sticky substance at the base. I cleaned it off, screwed it back on and it's fine. The other one is perhaps a different issue as that's still the same.
