Safest bet is to use whatever that's called out for your tranny. There's a sticker on your transmission pan indicating the required oil.

So are you doing a complete flush with a filter? There are some good DIY threads. At what mileage?

I have the same question as you do. I have been searching the site but not seen anyone use BMW OEM transmission oil, wonder why? Most people suggested VW or Esso or Redline. I have 01 X5 3.0i

This is the best DIY. I followed this thread's instructions with great results.
