$817 in labor alone to install hitch (dallas)!!!!!

just got a quote for $817 in labor to install the hitch on my 2004 X5. with the cost of parts comes to about $1250/$1300!!!!!

can anyone suggest a less expensive way of me getting an oem hitch installed in dallas? was prepared to spend 1K or so to have it done quickly, but $1300 is a little crazy to me.

pay me $600 to fly out there and install it for you.. that should cover the beer also.

That is nuts!!!! I just installed mine by myself in about 4 hours. Very easy. THe only hard part is taking off and putting back on the bumper.

To bad your are not closer or I could help.

you need a torx 55, 45 bits on a 3/8 drive.
8,10,13mm hex sockets and 6" extension.

How do you guys go about installing the computer module for the tow hitch?

Everyone I have spoken to including the dealer says a module of some form must be also fitted when the hitch goes on?

It just plugs into the existing connector that the vehicle is pre-wired for.

This is crazy!. I installed an eTrailer Class III Receiver Hitch on the X5 of my friend's wife over a month ago. The price of the hitch was $135. It took me all together about 3hours to mount it. I agree with intel55 the longest part is to take out and put back the rear bumper. And I did not drink while doing the job! ... but after it costed him a fortune in beers :-)

I was at Classic BMW test driving an e39 with my cousin on Fri. It didnt seem like that they had much experience with X5s. I really didnt see many on the lot. Overall, I was surprised to not find many BMWs in Dallas at all, or other European vehicles for that matter.

$1500 here

I paid $1500 for mine installed at time of purchase... When I got home with the truck I saw the DIY on here for it and kicked myself in the arse.
