Help - after cluster replacement, clock on stereo doesn't work!

I had my center instrument cluster replaced at the dealer today under the goodwill program.

The downside is that the dealer screwed up the clock on the Business radio display, and I can't get the time back. There are just dashes showing, and no matter how many times I've tried pushing the clock button and other combinations of buttons, I can't set the time or get a time to display. I've read the manual and nothing works.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

I paid $120 for 1 hour of labor. Your local dealer may vary. The part did come out to some astronomical amount, but BMW paid for that.

If you were quoted $211 for labor, that may be for 2 hours of work. I'm not sure what the total book time is, but I think the goodwill program specifies that the customer is only to pay for 1 hour. If the dealer charges more than that, they take it up with BMW NA. That's my understanding, anyway.

i think 1 hr labor is the MOST that should be paid for the radio MID. It's literally a 5 minute job. 1 hr is a rip off IMO. I'd rather give them $60 and do it myself.

i think your dealer sounds like a classic 'stealer'

The part retail is approx $650, you can look it up on realoem.com (even though you dont have to pay it, but if the dealer knows you did your homework then maybe they wont try and rip you off). If the part you are replacing is the radio display then it is a 5 min job, if it is the speedometer cluster than maybe the $211 is accurate, and the part price is probably accurate, i've never looked up that part.

I'm on my way to the dealer to get it replaced in 20 min, I'll post back when I get the labor quote.

I'm at the dealer now and they are replacing it for free. Search the forums for the bmw replacement thread and there should be an email address. Person doesn't work there anymore but I was registered in the system. Or call the bmw na 1.800 #. I posted it somewhere.

I'm paying less than $100 for my service (labor).I have 01 with over 106k miles, so if they give it to me they should give it to you. Its worth saving $800+

If not search ebay for the radio display, just make sure buttons match up, and ask seller to guarantee no dead pixels.

RastaFarai: I think most of us are talking about the instrument cluster replacement - not the stereo headunit that you are talking about. Obviously the shop time for the headunit is much less.

Dannyell: The BMW goodwill program will not permit you to install it yourself. They have to have a dealer verify that your part is burnt out. That is their way of controlling this program.

yah realized it must be the cluster with the prices that high. I just got back from dealer, took them a few hrs but maybe it was the line up. Only paid $43 for MID replacement. Not bad, i thought i'd pay up to $100. they were taking a while because they were trying to figure out why my date button wasnt working, and telephone button.

Anyone know where that is controlled from? gonna bring it to my indie in a few weeks to check it out.
