BMW X5 4.6IS with some faults can anyone help or give advice

Ive just bought a BMW X5 4.6IS , it has 60,000 miles with full BMW main dealer history and its Estoril blue and has every upgrade. The car has a few faults which are :

Fuel gauge shows empty - even when I put £70 of petrol in it

the radio doesn't work , the previous car owner said the battery had run flat and it hasn't worked since. He didn't have the code for it but when I try it wont let me click on code on the menu screen

I cant read the mileage properly on the dashboard and mpg because some of the words and numbers are missing

Can anyone help me with getting these problems fixed and what the problem is causing the faults

All advice is much appreciated

The bloke who I bought the car off also said the fuel gage was working until the battery went flat but its not worked since , he mentioned about having something reset ?????? and it will work again. I dont know if the above is true because he sold me the car and he would say that wouldn't he

First off let me say welcome to X5 World!!!

Well as far as your missing words go do a search under "Dead Pixels". This is a common issue with X5's that you can repaired at the dealer at no cost to you. You will find out all you need to know by doing the search.

You will probably have to have the computer reset. My mechanic told me the X5 does not like to be without battery power. He said it was akin to a computer being shut off by being unplugged and not logged off. I would hope the dealer would not charge you for that!!!

Good Luck!!

:xoutpost:

is the mechanic the only person that can do a computer reset? that may be my issue as well.

When my battery died the same thing happened to me, gas guage stopped working, and one other (mpg i think.. not 100% sure on the second, but i am on the gas guage!).

Does your radio turn on at all? Do you get something on the MID? I have had issues with my radio since my battery problems..

Post some pics of your X when u get a chance!!

Hi mate the radio turns on and shows all the stations on the front panel , the problem is there is no sound coming from the speakers. I took the car to an Independant BMW garage yesterday but there computer couldn't go into the system properly to find the faults , the mechanic there though knows a mechanic at BMW main dealers and he's going to get him to look at the car next Tuesday so hopefully they will then find what the problem is.

I've actually played with the rear plugs before and noticed that there are 2 things that could be wrong for you - there is a white plug beside a black plug, one of those is the amp/audio. Try resetting it (it's on the left side in the trunk). You will have to unscrew the black plastic peice underneath the floor board on the left side. there are three screws there - you can use a socket wrench. You can also try reseating the plug for the amp, you should be able to get to it without going under floor board in rear. Can't remember, but you might be able to get to the two harnesses as well.
