CPO'd X (Waterpump & Power Steering)

I just got my X back from the shop getting new rotors, pads, caliper, and lower control arm bushings. The X5 is a 2002 3.0i with 80,500 miles on it.

I see that the water pump goes a lot in the range of 50k to 80k and I want to be preventative with maintenance especially since the car comes off of CPO November 2008.

1.) Should I wait until November to see if the waterpump goes to get it covered under CPO, or should I pony up and pay to replace it now?

2.) The mechanic who worked on my car said the power steering hose was starting to seep very slightly. He reccommended I bring it back in right before warranty expiration in October. Is there anything else I should request they do before expiration?

Out of curiosity, why do you have a new caliper? did it sieze? There's no value in changing this out.

The dealer will more than likely only address issues that the agree are faulty so the best you can do is address the problems as they arrise rather than amass a list. Chances are if they do not complete the full list, you are really out of luck when it expires. just some advice.

Yes, the caliper seized so the dealership ended up giving me new pads, new caliper, and new rotors. I only had to pay for one rotor on the drivers side (side without a seized caliper) so that saved me some money in the long run.

I also paid for new lower control arm bushings, so that ended up being $650.00.

Wasn't sure if I should wait for the water pump failure or pony up and pay for it before it goes

Do you trust the so called 'temp gauge' to tell you when the pump dies and your engine is burning up?
