Hazards on...doors unlocked?

While driving my 02 X5 4.4 today the hazard lights came on, the doors unlocked, and the interior lights came on. I am pretty sure this is what is supposed to happen if I were invloved in an accident. However, I was not involved in a collision. It happened under moderate acceleration in normal driving conditions. I was unable to lock the doors with the button on the center console. After I stopped the car and locked it with the key remote, everything went back to normal.

The car is under an extended warranty and I will have it checked out, but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Also, because this seems to be what happens when a modern BMW is invloved in an accident, do I need to worry about the possibility of an air bag going off or anything else associated with an accident?

Any advice/comments will be greatly appreciated.

This is odd and oddly enough I have had the same thing happen to me. It happened once about 13 months ago and once about a month back. Both instances coincided with very cold weather and snow.

Anyone with any insight on this one?

Even more odd is that I live in the Atlanta area and it is actually snowing lightly today and is uncommonly cold! I garage the X5, but this happened about 5 minutes after I started driving it.

That is really interesting. My first time with this oddity was right in line with what you experienced. The second time I drove from some fairly heavy rain into heavy snow and much lower temps and got the symptom.

I wonder if there is some sensor that when cooled quickly makes a connection?
