caulking axle flange collar nut with normal silicone

Hello all, Ok this should be the least of my worries but after 2.5 hours and and standing there watching my mechanic and assistant do battle with the X they managed to replace the outer cv boot (with tips from this site i must say, so thanks) last query I have is what I read in the tipsNtrick diy :

"TIS recommends you caulk the axle flange nut to the hub to prevent moisture and dirt from going in.
I used RTV high temp black silicone to seal the outside of the axle flange nut to the hub.
"

caulk the nut to the hub - i guess that mean't coating it and the treads with sealant and then securing to hub? so i will have to just coat the outside of nut now and where it sits on the hub BUT can I get away with using regular silicone or with that just fall off due to high temps?
