Airbag warning light illuminated

I would really appreciate it if anyone can suggest possible resolution to the following problem.

Overnight the front passenger window was left open, it rained all night and i had approx 1/2" of water in center console. Since than i've used heater and air con to dry out interior, however, the red airbag warning light is illuminated and on occasions the car alarm is activated !!!

Until everything dries out, you will probably have all kinds of issues.

The airbag light will have to be reset by the dealer.

This happened to me, sort of, with my Audi. I had the car detailed and the detailer got water in the steering column. When I called the dealer, they told me to drive right to the dealership and not hit anything. They had to replace the airbag. Luckly it was under warentee so it did not cost anything.

The dealer said that water can cause a short which can cause the airbag to deploy. Bottom line, I'd get it checked sooooon....

You can also use a Peake Research SRS tool to reset the light, but keep in mind reseting the light is not always a permanent fix, nor is it a substitute for repair. If you have several BMWs though, it and the code reader are handy to have around and can save you trips into the service bay.
