anyone change the ball joint in the front spindle/carrier?

I've had this damn clunking from both front suspension for a while now. I didn't spend much time with diagnostic since everyone seem to be having issues with the ball joint on the control arms.

they were inexpensive so I replace them along with the swaybar endlinks. noise is still there! I don't think it's the tie rods my steering display non of the symptoms of a bad tie rod/ball joint.

i suspect that it's the ball joint that the front "tension strut" bolts to on the "carrier". this ball joint looks to be bolted on with a couple bolts.

anyone know if that's all there is to it?

I thought so too...but I just got those replaced and the sound still exists, I just called the shop and they told me it's possible that the axle might have been damaged already?
