Performed 45k checkup under warranty on last day. Next day brake lining light on.

Hi All,

Here's my story with 04 X5.

The full maintance warranty just expired on 1/29 (yesterday)

1/4: went dealer for oil service and 45k check-up but they rejected cause I still have one green light on service reminder. Re-scheduled for 1/28 cause my full maintance expires on 1/29.

Finally, on 1/28 morning yellow light. Checked-in and I guess they did oil service and 45k check up. According to their paper one of the item says "Check front and rear brake pad's and rotor's".

1/30, on the way back home, the "check brake linings" light on.

What the.. right next day warranty expires......

Question 1.
I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow morning and setup appointment.
Can I complain and this issue can be covered or am I just unlucky that this thing happened the next dayof the warranty?
Don't they supposed to checke during full maintance check and be fixed?

Question 2.
I got her as used from BMW dealer with BMW extended warranty (2 extra year with 50k more miles) but not full maintance.
Does brake lining covered by this warranty or not?

Thanks all for your answers~~

Question 2 first:

Warranty doesn't cover brakes, but maintenance does.

Question 1:

If they checked the brakes, they likely would have done it externally with a depth gauge, and the pads they checked may have been fine. The sensors are only on two out of eight pads. I think you should calmly ask them how they would like to handle it, since it seems logical that the pads were worn when they checked the vehicle. There may be fine print in the maintenance agreement that defines the cut-off, but it seems reasonable that they cover the brake repair.

Good luck.

they will do it for free. here was my situation. maintainance plan expired on my 530i 2 days before i took it in. i brought it in fairfax, they say blah blah blah we dont do it for free since the policy says so. ok i said, brought it to sterling where one of my favourite sa works. 2 days later, both front a rear brakes replaced (rotors, pads, sensors) 2 free extra keys (mine stopped working) free brake fluid change, free software update, free infamous passenger airbag light update, free oil service, free car wash, free coffee (well, consider it free)
