Temp gauge Question....cold weather issue!?!Check out photo..

It has been 32 deg and below for the last few days... I just noticed today that the temp needle stays right where it is located in the photo above when my heat is on in the car..when I shut the heat off...it goes right to its normal place at 12 noon. What is the reason for this..is this normal due to the cold weather or do I have a sensor that is shot?!

Thanks for any help in advance!

Rich

Rich..Your thermostat could be on its way out...That needle should read at dead center 12 O'clock when the car is warmed up..Outside temps don't have anything to do with it.... Have you had your tstat replaced yet?

Looks pretty normal to me. The thing is that when you turn on your heater, there's more coolant that comes into circulation from the heater core. Therefore, your coolant temperature would be lower as a result. If you drive the car long enough, the temp gauge should eventually go to 12 noon even with the heater on.
