Fairly new battery, X5 won't crank!

Hey guys! I've been a member to the site for several months learning TONS and this is my first post!

My husband changed my battery on my 03 X5 4.4 less than a year ago and when I went to crank it this morning it wouldn't crank. My truck does sit in the garage over the weekends bc we just take his truck everywhere but I didn't think that three days of down time should drain my new battery.

Husband is thinking that it might be an alternator issue.

Anyone have any suggestions?????????????????

Thanks in advance!

First thing is do you primarily do lots of short trips in your X5, in addition to it being a sometime garage queen?

If so, this will slowly drain the battery. Search the forums for "trickle charger" for more info on this.

Do all of the accessories work but the engine wont turn over? May be the starter. Could also be a bad connection to the battery. Have the battery checked first as it may be bad. Once recharged, have a trusted mechanic check the alternator. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the replies!!

Yes, I guess that I could say that my truck is a garage queen. I drive to and from work (about 40miles round trip, 5 days a week) and then she stays in the garage!

So I need to check the battery, starter and then have someone look at the alternator?

When I tried to crank this morning, all of my interior lights and accessories came on but it wouldn't turn over. I do have a radar detector plugged in at all times! Could that be slowly draining my battery?

Yes, your radar detector will over time drain the battery. So the lights were on but the engine wouldn't crank? Would it click or groan like its trying to turn over, or just dead silence?

Your starter is probably OK, sounds like a drained battery. Unplug the radar detector, recharge the battery, and I'm betting your going to be OK.

it sounds like a dead alternator to me. click, click says starter is ok. all lights are on says the battery is ok, no turning of the engine says bad alternator. here is the sequence you should do, recharge the battery to full, then start again, if it doesn't start it is the bad alternator but if it starts and dies again after a short garage time, its your radar that drain the battery.

Question

Did you try jump starting it? If it cranks over then you know its the battery.
