**Update** Tiptronic NOT so manual

I've got a tranny problem with my '01 4.4. According to the manual and info received on this site, I should be able to start off in 3rd gear while in manual mode. But now when I'm in manual mode and shift to 3rd before rolling, the indicator will automatically go down to 1. Also when in drive mode under light acceleration the car will shift at a very high RPM. 1-2nd gear at 3500, 2-3rd 4000. Doing 70mph the car is stuck in 4th and won't go to 5th either in manual or auto mode. What the heck is going on here...any ideas what may be wrong?
