Is this a thermostat? pic inside

seems like this piece is giving out on me, it's not the hoses (newer), it's not the radiator (newer) but on 2 of the connections i see them being wet, no leak yet, but looks like orings are wearing out.

has anyone had to replace this piece? realoem lists it as a thermostat, is there any other name for it, like "radiator thermostat" or what?
thanks in advance

I have a 2000 X54.4i 77000 miles.

A month ago, I replaced this part. It's called a Thermostat (17-10-7559-966). Mine was leaking - it's was actually broken at the tip. I paid $77 at the dealer - although that was after a discount. The list price is $96.

that's not a thermostat that regulates engine (coolant) temps. it looks like a distribution block. I put it back after changing the radiator.

Looks like a thermostat that regulates flow to the heater core.

Prior to replacing this part, I had the shop replace rotors and pads, valve cover gaskets and gromets, water pump and thermostat, drive belt and oil change. A day later, I noticed that there was a coolant leak and took the car back. When inspected, they found that the "part" was cracked. When I arrived at the shop they I saw the part. My mechanic had order it from the dealer and I volunteered to go get it to save time as the dealer is less than a mile away. The dealer invoice, which I have, says thermostat.

In the end, the shop replaced the part and I have no coolant leaks anymore.
You may be able to DIY - but you would have to drain the coolant first. Remove the hoses and replace the part. You would have to do this from under the car. It's easily accessible.

hope this helps

T-stat is located where the Hose #2 and #1 connects to the faded picture in the center of that diagram. It's bolts up in between the bell shaped housing.

The tstat is in the faded grey portion of the picture. Mounted above the water pump.
