Wham! Anyone know if the 4.8is parts are much more than stock '04?

Driving home minding my own business last night, and Wham! Slammed in the drivers side by a girl who made a left turn against a red turn arrow right into me. Said she thought she could beat me through the intersection. Guess not. Drivers side front fender caved, both doors and rear quarter panel all trashed. Ripped the front and rear fender trim off as well as the rocker. And of course both wheels on that side are scraped and gouged. They were brand new just 3 weeks ago with the new snows. She was written a ticket at the scene as being at fault.

So can I maybe get some benefit out of this problem? Since the entire drivers's side will need to be replaced, I was wondering if anyone knew if the wheel arch extensions and rockers from the 4.8is are much more money than the stock pieces on my '04 4.4. Obviously I'd have to cover replacing the parts on the passengers side on my own nickel, but I'd like to get some benefit from what I'm sure will be pure hell now dealing with insurance companies.

And any Chicago area recommendations on a quality body shop?

Since you didn't mention any injuries to yourself or the other driver, I'm assuming that you're both OK. Glad to at least hear that.

My parents and I were out Christmas shopping in NW Pennsylvania quite a few years ago when we were rammed by a female teenage driver on the front driver side. She was totally at fault (we were turning left on a green left arrow and she said she just didn't see the light-- I think it was probably because she was too busy yammering away on her driving distraction, err, cell phone...) The jarring took about 6 months for me to recover from, my father's recovery time was somewhat longer. My mother still has a few problems related to this accident to this day.

Since she was clearly at fault, I can only hope her insurance writes you a big fat check to cover the cost of getting your X5 fixed... Hopefully the cost will also make a few allowances for you to get the upgrade you want-- you should be able to get a little something for your inconvenience and her stupidity.

The 4.8is flares are more than the non 4.8is flares.

Contact A&L Autobody in Palatine. Ask for Anthony, he does nice work on all european cars.

Figured they were more. Guess the issue will be how much more.

thanks for the A&L recommendation. You're the third person today to make that suggestion- one had an Audi done there and another had a 996 Porsche done by A&L. Just wish it wasn't so darn far away from Wheaton.
